"Bat Babes" dump Destroyers Flashes Gals grab another Cee-Jay-1 title with a 10-0 drubbing of Dunellen
Katie "Smooth" Schreck tripled and drove in five runs and Chelsea "Chee-Chee" Kehr hit a solo home run to pace the "Beautiful Battlin' Bat Babes" to a 10-0 win over the Lady Destroyers of Dunellen in the final of the Central Jersey, Group 1 tournament yesterday in Dunellen. The Lady Flashes (16-6) now face Pennsville in the Group 1 semifinals on Tuesday at Wall.
The "Bat Babes" scored five runs in the fifth inning to pull away from host Dunellen High School for a 10-0 victory in the Central Jersey Group 1 championship game yesterday. The No. 2 seeded "Bat Babes" scored a run in the first, third and fourth innings to take a three run lead. They salted the game away in the fifth with five players crossing the plate to break the game open. The Destroyers were the top seed. The Schreckster's three singles accounted for five RBIs as the Lady Flashes advanced to the state semifinal game against Pennsville. Kelly "Oh-Kay" Garganio who continues to excell in the circle had eight strikeouts. She also induced eight ground-ball outs and some pop-ups, getting defensive support especially from freshman shortstop Desaree "Dez-E" Fillmyer (four assists, four putouts) as the much improved freshmen (3) avoided the early season mistakes that cost them two losses in the Millville Tournament and a loss to New Egypt. Also providing a big punch in the offense was Emily "Money" Million who went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. "Chee-Chee" got the "Babes" off and running in the big fifth inning with a lead-off home run. "Smooth's" fourth inning single produced the run that made it 3-0. Her triple scored two runs in the fifth and she capped it off with a two run single in the seventh inning.
